Choreography
A choreography is the creation and arrangement of dance moves based on stories or a music. As time flows, so is its growth from simple to being complex.
Developing a Dance
A choreography should start from a theme paired with a good music. Body motion should then reflect the theme selected.
Choreographers usually at the beginning only have a simple idea or a vision of the dance instruction. As the rehearsal progress, the dance is taking its shape. It is difficult to create a full dance without actually seeing the dancer involved.
Choreographers always know how to dance, demonstrating the movements for the dancers to follow. Others adapt moves from something he or she sees in a dancer.
From the dance choreography, costumes, set, and lightings follow. Professionals on those fields are then hired. It is impossible to create a production without coordination from composers, designers and the likes.
Learning Choreography
There are many dance workshops that one can attend to boost creativity and equip him or her with tools, techniques and knowledge to create a dance. A good dance routine is not only a series of dance steps, but how those dance steps connect with each other to tell the story. For one to create a dance, he or she must be willing and open for constant development, training, and feedback.
Being in a dance academy or attending workshops can be helpful to expose a potential choreographer to lectures, discussions, and updates which may help in his or her creation.
Having years of experience on the field of dancing may also be of help to a budding choreographer. Being exposed to what works and does not work with what is already a basis of a routine. Experience may make one perform steps and be in top physical condition and skilled for any step he or she feels is fit for the dance as well as feel for the rhythm and understanding of the craft.
A Successful Routine
Being able to flawlessly transfer the emotions of the dance to the audience, a successful dance production can be gauged not only by the standing ovation and the positive reviews or feedbacks received. Giselle and Swan Lake are examples of the two most successful productions or choreography. It is being continuously performed and roles passed on to one great dancer to another. Being included in such productions is a dream of any dancer.
